sweet boy

today jack made a “bed” for me out of blocks. he told me to lay down, then he brought me a pillow (”poo poo” as he calls it) and handed me a puppy to hold. so i laid my head on the pillow - apparently he was in a snuggling mood because he then smashed his head down with me, but hit me right in the eye with his forehead - i sat up and was holding my eye - i told him mama had an owie. he came over to me, touched it gently, and gave it a kiss. then he was doing the baby sign for “sorry” - it was so precious i could barely stand it. he is so sweet.

he is really interested in my growing belly - he tries to give her water, crackers, and always wants to show her toys. he gives her lots of kisses and calls her baby. today he started wanting her to read with us - so when he is on my lap reading he will pull up my shirt and yell right at my belly “truck” or whatever we are looking at on the page. he says it once to me, then points to her, gets close to her and yells. as i was putting him to bed tonight we were looking at the truck book and as soon as we got to the garbage truck page he said “baby” and tugged at my shirt and was saying “ga-ga, truck, ga-ga, truck” - we’ll see how sweet he is to her when she is actually OUT and taking attention away from him!

jack is really into doing things himself right now - he will say “jack, jack, jack” and point to himself when he wants to do it himself. makes life interesting but it is so cool -

also we are working on learning numbers and colors - he can say one, two, and with prompting he will say three! he says that all colors are blue but we are working on telling him the color of everything! what a big boy (:

salsa

jack loves salsa now and he asks for it constantly. the way he says the word is so awesome - i have to get it on video - whenever he wants to dip something (what IS it with kids and dipping things) he asks for salsa, no matter what it is he is eating - he normally won’t touch vegetables, but he will eat a whole bowl of salsa (kid-sized) with his hands, tomatoes and all…..

he is more hilarous every day. we went to a small group picnic today about 20 minutes away and we picked up jesse on the way - because of my inability to ride in the back of cars during pregnancy (car sick) jesse sat in back with jack - jack was laughing when he laughed and copying everything he said - including “google” when we were talking about the founder of google….as he was falling asleep on phils shoulder tonight he was saying “uncle….car, uncle…..car” - he sure does love his uncle jesse (:

he has been SUCH a good boy lately, i took him to grand rapids on thursday and he did great - he had a hard time sleeping in a strange place but other than that he was wonderful with all kinds of people he didn’t know, he was playing hard until way past his bedtime and never had a meltdown - boy did i pay for that the next day with more meltdowns than i have ever seen - he cried for over an hour going down for his nap but i knew the poor kid needed the sleep - not to mention so did i!!!

we took him to the small group picnic tonight at our friends jason/amy’s - he LOVED it there and was playing good with the toys by himself for long stretches - he has been such a trooper this summer staying up late and playing outside and just being a really good boy - he LOVES his new stool in the bathroom and brushes his teeth like 6-7 times a day, he is also getting really into washing his hands. we have been making “beds” and “chairs” out of the blocks in his playroom and he loves doing that - he also loves taking medicine of any kind - the past few days he has had some benedryl for his eczema which has been really itchy and bothersome and he screams when it is gone…..aunt laurie gave him a big toy that is a football player - that thing has already fell on phil’s toe and crashed into jack’s head - jack was driving the football player around on his truck, constantly asking for it to play the music and dancing to it - we have to figure out how to make the thing 5 lbs lighter and we will be all set - he calls it “foot”…

the word explosion continues - i can’t even keep up with all the words, he tries to say everything he hears and he is getting it right a lot of the time - he loves to talk (: - when he gets disciplined we tell him to look in our eyes and then we tell him no and ask if he understands - (it is pretty comical when he says yes and then goes ahead with the behavior anyways) every time we do this now he says “uncle” because last week he was climbing the bunk bed ladder in colin’s room at the wilsons and jesse had a little “talking” to him just telling him no and asking if he understood etc…now every time he gets disciplined or we say no he says “no, no, uncle, no no, uncle” - it is crazy how much they remember at this age!

when he gets really excited about something he shouts “yes, yes, yes, yes” and stomps his feet! it is so cute (; he has also started yelling for us if we are in another room “MAMA, MAMA, MAMA” - i am sure this will no longer be cute very soon but right now it is so funny to hear this big voice coming out of him. he is so into baths, he loves to swim in the tub, put his face in the water, blow bubbles, and play with his toys. it is pretty much guaranteed meltdown every night when he gets out. not to mention it is usually past bedtime by this point. he loves it when i pull the shower curtain shut and peek in at him - he splashes so big and giggles.

at the wilsons this weekend he got dunked in their pool like 5-6 times - i did it once and he wanted to show aunt ronni and then daddy and then uncle jesse - he was very proud of himself! for the rest of the weekend he will randomly say “dunk..pool, dunk…pool”

he finally will read something other than curious george - nothing against george but you can only take so much of one book! especially when he wants to read it for up to 45 minutes at a time 2-3 times a day!! i forgot his book going to GR so we stopped at meijers to look for one. no curious george (at the time i was thinking he would never go to sleep without him but it turns out it was good news) but he picked out 2 truck books and i haven’t read about the little monkey since - he wants the truck books over and over and over - and there aren’t even that many words!!!

new new new….

every day is new now - there are more words, more activities, more things to climb, more adventures!

one of my favorite new things that just started happening is that when he is hot he will blow, blow, blow - he did this for the first time when he had his bare feet on the hot deck - and now if we get into the car and it is too warm he will do the same thing - it is pretty cute and funny…

he is picking up new words at the rate of like 3-5 per day - he mimics everything and tries to talk all the time - he is constantly talking about our friends the wilsons, saying all of their names over and over again all the time. he says that “uncle jesse” teaches him everything and talks about all of them all the time -

jackson’s new toolbox! he loves it - he is constantly saying “saw, saw, saw” and bringing tools to daddy to play with -

 

  

beach bum

despite my constant efforts at sun protection jackson is turning into a little beach bum! his arms and legs are getting tanner every day, even though he is slathered in 50+ and re-applied all the time! it is pretty cute to see his little baby tan lines.

also the kid is never without a hat outside - so i don’t know how he is getting this bleach blond hair on the top of his head - he definitely looks like a little beach bum (:

jack is starting to put 2 words together….

kick/ball
uncle/church
up/down (and he points correctly to up and down - we don’t know where he learned this)

he also will associate people with things and say their names along with it -

ross/kick (since ross is teaching him how to kick)
daddy/toot (no explanation needed)

he is a little sponge right now -hearing, repeating, remembering everything!! this morning i said “shoot” and he said it after me about 10 times. luckily that is about the extent of my language (: about 20 minutes later phil said “oh crap” and of course jackson says it about 10 times right after. he is listening to everything we say (:

fire truck fun!

gigi and grandpa came to visit all day saturday and bought jackson a really cool fire truck sprinkler!

who is this big boy?

jack is getting SO big every day - he learned like 10 new words just this weekend. he is hilarious and fun to play with - he is stubborn but so sweet. we had a great time with daddy being home for 5 days! jack did so great with all the driving and visitors and FUN! he is so animated and excited all the time - he continues to run everywhere and not walk anywhere - he LOVES curious george and wants to read the same stories over and over again (:

his first night going to bed without a bottle (he had been on just one night time bottle for a long time) was last tuesday and he is doing great! just reading 2-3 stories from curious george and going right down. grandma got him his own little pillow which he loves - he loves to lay his head on it and say “night night” - he also loves to show it to everyone who comes over (:

he got a new stool from gigi to stand on and brush his teeth - he is SO proud of it and wants to brush like 10 times a day. the other day he carried it to all three sinks in the house and brushed his teeth in each sink.

he is adorable and sweet. we were going through his clothes today picking out things that his little sister will be able to wear and i said “can your little sister borrow your hat?” and he walked over to me, lifted up my shirt, and put the hat right on my belly! it was so cute (:
